DESIGNERS

Masatsugu Hara

KARATI's first designer

Masatsugu Hara

Born in Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture in 1956.
Masatsugu Hara studied both Japanese-style and
Western-style painting from an early age.
Through a painterly approach to jewelry making,
his creative process begins with drawing the human
skeletal structure. This leads to what he describes as
“the integrated beauty of jewelry and the human body.”
Inspired by the cosmos and the natural world, he continues
to create highly artistic works ranging from minimal to
decorative designs.
His philosophically rich and highly original creations have
earned acclaim among affluent clients overseas,
particularly in the Middle East.

Meier Hara

KARATI's second generation designer

Meier Hara

Born in Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture in 1986.
Meier Hara launched his own collection in 2020.
While inheriting the world of KARATI, he creates works
inspired by the changing seasons, shifts in human emotion,
and the broader sense of transformation.
Drawing on his English and Chinese language skills,
he has been promoting the brand’s international expansion. Reinterpreting the inherited aesthetic through a contemporary
sensibility, he continues to communicate new values of
KARATI to audiences in Japan and abroad.

JAPAN QUALITY

Numazu City in Shizuoka Prefecture, birthplace of designer Masatsugu Hara
Numazu, a city of abundant nature, surrounded by the sea, mountains and rivers
as well as offering splendid views of Mt Fuji,
is where KARATI headquarters and atelier are located.

Approximately half of all KARATI employees
are artisans working in our own atelier.

Strictly controlled casting preventing porosity
and highly-skilled artisans’ devotion to create haute couture with special pieces
bring about highest quality corresponding to global standards.

Similarly to other industries, the Japanese jewelry industry likewise incorporating
aspects of traditional handicraft skills is facing a decline of artisans preserving long-lasting traditions.

At KARATI,
we are aware of the need to succeed the carefully cultivated craftsmanship to next generations,
which is why we have been actively involved in activities for nurturing young artisans.

The number of young artisans is increasing,
and a veteran artisan in their 60s is educating them,
passing down their skills and spirit to the next generation.

Heading for the world from a small town, called Numazu.
Delivering the sentiment from us, here at KARATI, to people all over the world.
